Famous movies filmed on the Hawaiian Islands
The beautiful Hawaiian Islands are a haven for acting greats throughout film history. Elvis Presley, Harrison Ford, Michael Douglas, Patrick Swayze, Kate Hudson, Pierce Brosnan, Halle Berry and Ben Affleck are just some of the actors that have been seen through the lens on the Islands of Aloha.
It’s hardly surprising why directors chose Hawaii as the setting to their screenplays – Hawaii is a picture paradise, where sheer cliffs, lush greenery, and clear waters offer the ultimate backdrop.
Here are the ones you'll recognise the most-
Blue Hawaii
In his first box-office smash, Elvis croons his way around Oahu and Kauai as a returning GI turned lovelorn tour guide.
Jurassic Park
Steven Speilberg's epic saw resurrected and unsurprisingly hungry dinosaurs marauding all over Kauai, as well as Oahu's Kualoa Ranch.
South Pacific
The 1958 Hollywood adaption of Rodger and Hammerstein's got-to-love-a-man-in uniform Broadway musical is set in a US Army base near Lumahai Beach, Kauai.
Raiders of the Lost Ark
The opening exterior shots of Harrison Ford's most famed movie were filmed in the area near the Huleia River on Kauai, cunningly disguised as a South American Mountain range.
Lost
Much of this hugely popular US "where are we ?" plane crash survivor drama was filmed on Oahu's North Shore. Mystery solved!
