The Out Islands of The Bahamas - The Exumas
Lying 250 miles from the Florida coast, The Exumas are made up of 365 islands and cays strung out like jewelled stepping stones across 120 miles of shimmering emerald ocean. The bright white sand of the deserted beaches contrasts strikingly with the deep aquamarine and jade hues of the water, making this chain one of the prettiest in The Bahamas. For a close-up encounter with the indigenous wildlife, visit Exuma Cays Land and Sea Park, a 176-square-mile natural reserve home to coral reefs, exotic marine life and the rare Bahamian iguana. The anchor of the Exumas archipelago is Great Exuma and the laid back capital Georgetown.
Many of the Exuma Cays are private; some operated as private-island resorts and others the exclusive homes of stars like Johnny Depp, David Copperfield and country singers Tim McGraw and Faith Hill. The hub of the Exuma Cays is Staniel Cay where a landing strip serves as the gateway from Nassau and Florida to the northern stretch of Cays. You'll also find Thunderball Cave – seen in the James Bond film of the same name as well as Never Say Never Again, Splash and Into The Blue. Put on a mask and snorkel inside where the friendly fish are accustomed to being hand fed. And just around the corner, you'll find the wildly popular swimming pigs! You've got to take a look.................
