The Out Islands of The Bahamas - Harbour Island
Accessible via a short scenic ferry ride from North Eleuthera Island, Harbour Island, was ranked as "The Best Island in the Caribbean" by Travel & Leisure magazine back in 2005, and boasts lush tropical greenery and magical pink sand beaches. It is a haven for the rich and famous, including Bill Gates, Mariah Carey and Harrison Ford, who drive golf carts like everyone else to get around this beautiful three-mile long island.
For a little bit of history, visit Loyalist Cottage, a wonderful example of loyalist architecture, Commissioner’s Residence built in 1913, St. John’s Anglican Church built in 1768, as well as the Chapel Street cemetery containing ancient graves. A hidden overgrown 17th century battery built by the English to defend the island can be found at the southern end of Bay Street. Cannons, called Roundheads, can still be seen at this site.
