Days 1 - 4 : New Orleans, Louisiana
Founded in 1718, New Orleans is steeped in a history with influences from Europe, Africa and the Caribbean. It’s boasts a colourful mosaic of culture, food and music. Here you’ll find the roots of Jazz and a blossoming culture that is simply like nowhere else on Earth. Your home for the next four nights will be in the unique French Quarter, filled with Spanish architecture (there's an interesting story there) and lively Jazz bars. It’s a short stroll from here to Jackson Square, the heart of the city, and a mecca for artists and street performers.
Discover nooks and crannies not normally visited by tourists during your walking tour of the French Quarter. And, no trip to the south is complete without a cruise on the Mississippi River. Relax on deck sipping a refreshing Mint Julep as you cruise Ol’ Man River.
Day 5 : Embark NCL's Western Caribbean Cruise
With your Caribbean cruise not setting sail until 4pm, you've got the morning to browse the eclectic shops along Magazine Street. Delight in a wide range of historic architecture – from the large columned Greek Revival style of the mid-19th century, to the colourful Victorian cottages trimmed in quirky gingerbread millwork.
Once on board the ship, enjoy a cocktail on deck as Norwegian Pearl gracefully departs the port of New Orleans and heads for the turquoise waters of the Western Caribbean.
Day 6 : Day at Sea
With a full day at sea you'll be spoilt for choice on what to do first. Head to the Mandara Spa or work out in the gym. Take a dip in the Tahitian pool or simply pull up a lounger and tuck into a good holiday read. The best bit, with Free Style dining, you don't have to be anywhere at a specified time, so you truly are free to do as you like - all day.
Day 7 : Cozumel, Mexico
Wake up in Cozumel, a dreamy island off the coast of Mexico's Yucatán Peninsula. If you're not booked on an NCL excursion, such as Passion Island, Tulum Mayan Ruins or Chichen Itza, the town is a pleasant place to spend the afternoon and the island offers some of the best reef diving in the world.
It's back on board for a 5pm sailing tonight. Time to freshen up and head to the Champagne Bar before dinner.
Day 8 : Roatan, Bay Islands, Honduras
Enjoy the views of Roatan, one of Honduras's Caribbean Bay Islands, as you arrive into port at 10 am. Part of a huge barrier reef, these islands are famous for their idyllic beaches, dive sites and plentiful marine life, including whale sharks. There's a wide choice of excursions available such as shipwreck snorkelling, ziplining, ATV adventures and Jungle horseback tours. Alternatively, head for one of the dreamy beaches.
Day 9 : Harvest Caye, Belize
Voted "Best New Cruise Port", Harvest Caye in southern Belize is a 75-acre oasis featuring a massive, tropical pool with a swim-up bar, salt-water lagoon and exclusive 7-acre beach. You'll have the whole day to take part in exciting shore excursions ranging from ziplining across the island to snorkelling the world's second largest barrier reef. Or, simply enjoy the surroundings and top up the tan.
Day 10 : Costa Maya, Mexico
Costa Maya, a lively Mexican port, is pure fun. Shops, bars, restaurants, entertainment and gorgeous beaches with gin-clear water await you. If looking for a spot of culture, you'll have a whole day here, so enjoy a shore excursion to the magnificent Kohunlich Mayan site. Built before 500 AD, this is home to a sunken palace, pyramid temple and unique sculpted masks of the Mayan sun god. Alternatively, sign up for salsa dancing lessons on the beach.
Day 11 : Day at Sea
Enjoy your last full day cruising the Gulf of Mexico.
Day 12 : Disembark
Disembarkation starts today at 8am. As the port lies in the heart of New Orleans, you'll have time for some last minute souvenir shopping before your afternoon flight back to the UK.
You may decide to extend your stay and explore more of the Deep South. Maybe a visit to Nashville or Memphis for a few days.
