Amarillo is the largest Texan city located on Route 66 and the Historic District runs for thirteen blocks along 6th St. between Georgia and Forrest Avenues just west of the downtown area.
Just outside the city, you'll find one of Route 66's more curious attractions - Cadillac Ranch. In the 1970's, ten cars were buried in the ground nose down. Today, people travel far and wide to leave their mark, in spray paint, in this Texas field!
Along with Route 66, you'll discover a unique city full of history. Amarillo is positioned exactly where the southern plains meet the desert. Known as the Texas Panhandle, this area blends the traditional working western ranch with a buzzing 21st Century economy offering visitors the perfect mix of old and new Texas.
