Taos is in northern New Mexico and sits at the heart of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains and was first inhabited over eight hundred years ago by the ancient Tiwa Pueblo Indians. The city is famed for its many galleries featuring local artists and crafts and has some wonderful small museums. Be sure to visit the D.H. Lawrence Ranch, home to the writer in the 1920s.
