The riverside town of Essex, is now a yachting port but was once a notable shipbuilding centre and fine captains' houses remain.  Amidst the gracious homes the Griswold Inn continues to thrive having been in business continuously since 1776.  In summer cruise the Connecticut River and ride aboard the Connecticut Train & Riverboat.
