The glorious Lake Shasta area is only 12 miles north of Redding. The region has the largest nesting population of bald eagles in California. The lake itself is home to 21 types of fish, including rainbow trout and salmon. Here you can rent a fishing boat or a canoe and explore the pristine lake.
Fancy an incredible days hiking? Well, you've got to check out Mount Shasta, a 14,162 ft high dormant volcano and the jewel in the crown of the 2.5 million acre Shasta-Trinity National Forest.
A visit to Shasta Dam, the second largest concrete dam in the USA, is a must too. On a clear day (and there is many of them) snowicapped Mt Shasta glimmers on the horizon above the still waters.
