Unrushed. Uncrowded. Unbelievable. UnCruise!
Welcome to the world of small ship cruising around the tropical islands of Hawaii.
Set sail today for Maui, known as the Valley Isle and second largest of the Hawaiian Islands with some of the best beaches in the world. The waters around Maui also offer some of the best Humpback whale watching opportunities in Hawaii. You'll view these magnificent creatures up-close in the Humpback National Marine Sanctuary which is located between the islands of Maui, Lanai and Molokai. This will be one of THE highlights of your sailing holiday.
You'll also visit Olowalu (Turtle Reef) on the west coast of Maui, which in ancient times was considered a place of refuge. Here you can relax and enjoy the scenery or snorkel amongst the coral gardens and sea turtle habitat.
Today is known as Captain's Choice Day. Due to weather conditions on the actual day it's up to the Captain which direction he'll sail. It may be a dramatic volcano backdrop, marine life sightings, a hidden beach or soaring seacliffs, whatever he unveils, you won't be disappointed. Think of it as a Mystery Day at Sea.
It's time to head for the Big Island!
Built from five separate volcanoes erupting sequentially, one overlapping the other, this is the youngest and boasts the most dramatic scenery among the Hawaiian islands. It's home to Kilauea, the world's most active volcano; Mauna Kea - the tallest sea mountain in the world; Mauna Loa - the largest volcano in the world; and of course, Volcanoes National Park.
Big Island is full of contrasts - from the snow-capped mountains to fiery volcanic lava fields then tropical rainforests and deserted beaches. Captain Cook Bay is fringed by swaying coconut palms and colourful corals, sponges and tropical fish and you'll spend the day amongst them.
Choose your own adventure today. Adventurers can opt for Puu Waawaa State Wildlife Sanctuary and the trails above the Kona coast. Head up Hualalai Volcano, then set out on a long hike up the cool and misty slopes, complete with natural history interpretation. A shorter option boasts views of craters, fissures, and lava tubes.
For a more relaxed morning - visit with a ranger, hike the trail to petroglyphs, or check out the Kaloko fishpond. Fishponds are among the great engineering feats of Hawaiians, nowhere else throughout Polynesia were fishponds so numerous and highly developed. Bird watch or relax on the white coral sand beach—you may even spot a green sea turtle. For your final afternoon, relax on board or go for a final dip. This evening, you'll celebrate your voyage with the Captain’s Dinner.
This morning it's time to leave your home on the sea, but your Hawaiian holiday isn't over yet - you've got a few nights on the Big Island or as the Hawaiians call it - Hawaii Island. Take in the sights on an island tour and a visit to Volcano National Park. We'd also recommend star-gazing at the Mauna Kea Summit which Bon Voyage would be delighted to pre-book for you.
Mahalo Hawaii - it's time to fly back to the UK.
