A Tampa Tradition and local’s secret since 1956. You’d never think of stopping at this non-descript white building in a residential area in Tampa’s SoHo district. Well, you will now…..
In 1951, a young Bern Laxer and his wife Gert were relocating from New York to California. En route, they stopped in Tampa to visit a relative. Unfortunately, they ran out of money. Fortunately, they made Tampa their new home!
So, what’s all the fuss? Well, let’s start with the steaks. Bern’s has elevated the steak dinner to an art….it’s all about getting the right cut, then savouring it. And every cut imaginable is available – select your favourite then it's hand trimmed and broiled to your liking over real charcoal. Add caramelised red onion or roasted garlic and maybe a red wine balsamic sauce? Accompaniments and sauces are plentiful and your waiter is always on hand to offer suggestions.
The vegetables are grown locally on the Bern's farm or sourced from the finest purveyors. The Appetiser menu is delectable – including over 20 choices of caviar and the freshest of oysters and scallops. And then, there’s dessert. Always home-baked and recipes you will never see again – saving room is not an option, it is mandatory!
