Oregon is a firm favourite in the Bon Voyage office and we love nothing more than tailor-making that unique itinerary that encompasses what this great state has to offer. Whether you love hiking, exploring cities, or enjoying natural beauty, Oregon has something for everyone.
Keen to find out more? Travel Oregon and Armchair Productions have launched a new podcast series called “Hidden Trails of Oregon”.
The series is hosted by international podcast host Aaron Millar and features expert guides and local characters who take listeners on a first-person journey across Oregon’s wild, weird, and wonder-filled state.
The podcast is recorded on-location in surround sound audio and features three episodes that showcase the places only Oregonians will know.
The episodes are available to download from wherever you get your podcasts from.
Here’s a breakdown of each episode:
Episode One: Northern Culture Trail – This episode takes listeners on a journey through Portland’s favourite food carts, secret bars, and hidden local spots before heading south to the Willamette Valley to sip some of the most delicious Pinot Noir grapes in the world. The episode ends in Eugene at Saturday Market, Oregon’s premier art market, to meet the makers who helped turn this artist community into one of the most thriving creative hubs in the Pacific Northwest.
Episode Two: Coastal Adventure Trail – This episode begins at the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area in Florence, where listeners can learn sandboarding from world champion rider Gabe Cruz. The journey continues south down the coast to the sleepy seaside town of Port Orford for wild beaches, windswept headlands, ocean swells, and one of the greatest wildlife experiences on Earth. Continuing along the coast, the episode explores the secret coves of the Samuel H. Boardman State Scenic Corridor.
Episode Three: Central Nature Trail – This episode takes listeners to the top of Watchman Peak for the best view over Crater Lake in the park. In Bend, one of Oregon’s premier adventure towns, listeners can enjoy sunset paddling along the Deschutes River surrounded by thousands of swallows, baby Ospreys, and a surprise visit from Oregon’s state animal. The episode also features a spine-chilling 1000-foot descent into a lava tube, formed by a “River of Fire” over 7,000 years ago, and ends in Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs Reservation for some “river therapy” and a fly-fishing lesson from a native guide.
