You're sure to see famous celebs when you visit LA, aren't you? But it's not always a certainty...However, one visit to the Hollywood Forever Cemetery and you'll encounter Tinsel Towns most famous and infamous people.
Since its opening in 1899 this eerie graveyard is now the final resting place of Bugsy Siegel, Rudolph Valentino, Cecil.B. DeMille, Douglas Fairbanks and Peter Lorre to name but a few hollywood legends.
Death by misfortune is well represented here too in the simple plaque that marks the resting place of the actress Virginia Rappe, who died under mysterious circumstances after a legendary party in the San Francisco hotel suite of silent film star Roscoe “Fatty” Arbuckle. He was found innocent of her murder, but the resulting publicity blackballed him out of the industry. Today, visitors to the cemetery have reported hearing sobbing around Ms Rappe's tombstone, although there has been nobody in sight.
Nearby is the slightly more elaborate monument for Jayne Mansfield (who is actually buried in Pennsylvania), star and famous devotee of Anton LaVey and his Church of Satan, who died in an auto wreck that spared her three children but also killed her dog and driver. Rumors still swirl about a curse put on Mansfield by the goateed LaVey.
