The jewel of the region is Mt. Shasta. Visible from more than 100 miles and over 14,000 feet high, it is technically a live volcano.

Redding to the south, is the largest city in the area and the gateway to Shasta Trinity National Recreation Area, a mecca for outdoor activities from camping to backpacking; horseback riding to mountain biking.

This is also the home to Shasta Lake, the largest in California, formed by Shasta dam which has a spillway three times as high as Niagara Falls.
