Day 2 Denver to Cheyenne

Cowboy lassoing bull

Distance: 102 miles

Named after the Cheyenne Indian people which once inhabited this area of Wyoming. It's wild and woolly past is reflected in the Cheyenne Frontier Days Old West Museum, well worth a visit. A trip to an authentic Wild West Saloon in the evening will set you on your way. We recommend the "Nagle Warren", a quirky B&B.

Days 3-4 Cheyenne to Custer State Park

Buffalo at road side

Distance: 264 miles

An early start today as we head off to South Dakota and Custer State Park, home to a herd of 1,500 bison that roam freely through the 73,000 acres of spectacular scenery.
This State's attractions boast famous Mount Rushmore and the impressive Crazy Horse Memorial (when complete it will be 10 times larger than Mt Rushmore) as well as Jewel Cave National Monument, Wind Cave National Park and the eerie Badlands.

Day 5 Custer State Park to Sheridan

Distance: 235 miles

Sheridan owes its beginning to two trappers who built a cabin along the little Goose River in 1873. It rapidly became a centre of ranching set against a backdrop of wild open plains to the east and the jagged Big Horn Mountains to the West. We recommend to experience this area you stay at The Ranch in Ucross for great home cooking and sing-along beside the piano in the evening.

Days 6 - 7 Sheridan to Yellowstone National Park

Distance: 240 miles

America's oldest national park and one of the best examples of unspoilt
wilderness. At 2.2 million acres it houses the world's most extensive areas
of geyser activity. It is also the favourite park of many, not because of its
thermal fireworks, but because of its wildlife. Don't' be surprised to see
black bear as you drive through the park - remember you are a visitor in
the bears' backyard!

Days 8 - 9 Yellowstone National Park to Jackson

Distance: 80 miles

Just when you thought that the scenery couldn't possibly getter any better, you'll come across the next magnificent leg of your journey in The Grand Teton National Park. Eight large lakes, glistening glaciers and year-round snow capped mountains. Watch the sunrise over the Tetons, you'll be amazed by the pink and crimson mist that clings to the mountains. Your overnight stay is Jackson, a very stylish western cowboy town.

Day 10 Jackson to Steamboat Springs

steamboat springs town view

Distance: 385 miles

Wake early and make the most of a spectular day's drive through the Rocky Mountains to quaint Steamboat Springs. Stroll along the Victoria style boardwalk and dine in one of the many western restaurants, a great place to sample Rocky Mountain oysters! Browse through the antique shops or for the more adventurous zoom down the Yampa River on a tube. Steamboat Springs is a relaxing location to unwind and chill out before your flight home.

Day 11 Steamboat Springs to Denver

Distance: 160 miles

Time to head home…will you rise early enough for last minute shopping en route?
