Maybe one of New York’s best kept local secrets is the free Staten Island Ferry service to Staten Island from Whitehall street in lower Manhattan. 

The six-mile scenic route features unobstructed views of the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island and the New York harbour.

You can either use the ferry for a quick jaunt around the harbour, or spend some time on Staten Island and you'll discover unique museums and galleries as well as miles of beaches.
