Kick off your New England holiday with a guided tour of Boston's historic sites dotted along the famous Freedom Trail. Travel east to see the birthplace of the American Revolution and the "shot heard around the world". The battles of Lexington and Concord were the first skirmishes in the American war for independence, these quaint towns are still rich in history.
This afternoon's leisurely drive takes you along the Mohawk Trail, an early Native American and colonial trade route and now a designated scenic drive.Today we will experience Yankee ingenuity with a visit to the Vermont Country Store opened in 1946 by Vrest and Ellen Orton, in the quaint village of Weston, Vermont. Get a taste of all that Burlington has to offer both in the form of nature and delectable East Coast cuisine. Enjoy a lunch and take in the serene surroundings that look out of a postcard.
Today we make our first stop at Lake Champlain Chocolates for local artisan ice-cream and chocolate. We then head to the pictueque village of Stowe, Vermont, a popular winter ski destination, this charming New England town comes to life with the quintessential red and orange hues during the Fall months. Then we head to the Raven Wildlife Program, where a Local Specialist will give fascinating insight into the local ecology, wildlife, and even the science behind the famous colours of the fall foliage found here.
Journey along "The Kanc", an American Scenic Byway that cuts through the White Mountain National Forest, admiring the glowing fall colours. Enjoy an easy hike to Diana's Baths, a series of small waterfalls and the site of a sawmill powered by turbines from the 1930s, (no longer there) built by George Lucy.
The intense hues of New England's forests and mountains linger as we journey south past the rocky beaches and cliffs of Maine's rugged coast. We journey past lighthouses, fisheries and seaside dwellings that have sheltered everyone from local lobstermen to holidaying presidents. Travel south to the mouth of the Piscataqua River and the historic seaport city of Portsmouth, one of the oldest cities in the United States. This evening, we join our fellow travellers for a memorable Farewell Dinner reminiscing over our fall foliage experience.
We'll return to Boston and bid farewell to new friends. Transfer to Boston Logan International Airport or to the hotel in Boston if you'd like to extend your stay.
This is the last day of your escorted tour, however your adventure doesn't have to end here. Perhaps you'd like to extend your stay and travel to Washington DC and explore the country's capital or maybe head to New York city for some shopping and sightseeing.
