Effigy Mounds National Monument is a group of ancient American Indian burial and ceremonial mounds dating from 500 B.C. and 1300 A.D. located near Marquette in northeast Iowa, these fascinating mounds are shaped like birds and animals and form the centerpiece of a 2,526-acre forest that includes 11 miles of hiking trails.
