Idaho Holidays
Sawtooth National Recreation Area
North of Ketchum and Sun Valley ,the highway climbs through ever-larger mountains and forests-where Clint Eastwood filmed Pale Rider-to top out after twenty miles at Galena Summit, one of the most spectacular panoramic viewpoints in all of the Rockies. Spreading out far below, the meadows of the Sawtooth Valley stretch northwards, bearing minimal traces of the long-abandoned gold-mining settlements.
The simple road meanders beside the Salmon River and the serrated ridge of the Sawtooth Mountains forms an impenetrable barrier along the western horizon. Hikers are guaranteed solitude in these heavenly surroundings.
Here you’ll encounter the pretty, but tiny town of Stanley, stop for lunch in the historic Sawtooth Hotel .
This part of Idaho, and indeed, the USA, is simply breathtaking.
