Hell's Canyon

Hells Canyon Aerial

Hells Canyon is a ten-mile wide canyon located along the border of eastern Oregon and western Idaho.. It is North America's deepest river gorge at 7,993 feet and the most important feature of Hells Canyon National Recreation Area. The canyon is accessible by road from Oregon or boat from Lewiston, Idaho.

The canyon was carved by the waters of the Snake River, which plunges more than a mile below the canyon's west rim on the Oregon side and 8,000 feet below the peaks of Idaho's Seven Devils Mountains range to the east. The scenic vistas and the wild rugged mountains in this region are breathtaking..

River rafting

Here you’ll encounter deer, otters, mink, black bears, mountain lions and elk (and rattlesnakes and black widow spiders!) Mechanical vehicles are banned above water-level in much of the canyon, so you can only explore on foot or horseback. The park e rangers offer a “drop-off” service for hikers, they’ll leave you in one area of the park and for a small fee, and collect you later on in the day from another region.
