In the midst of one of Coral Gables'
residential neighbourhoods, hidden behind pastel stucco walls and wrought iron
gates, is one of the most special attractions in Coral Gables - Venetian Pool. Fed by underground artesian wells, it is the
only public swimming pool of its kind with vine-covered loggias, shady
porticos, a Spanish fountain, three-story observation towers and cascading waterfalls
that spill into a free-form lagoon complete with coral rock caves and
palm-fringed island.
During its heyday, Esther Williams and Johnny Weismuller swam
its lengths, while the orchestras of Paul Whitman and Jan Garber serenaded pool
side dancers and bathing beauties by the hundreds promenaded across specially
constructed walkways.
The whimsical and romantic allure is still evident today in
the conservation and preservation of this 1924 gem. We highly recommend a visit (please note
children under 3 years old are not permitted).
