The four best-known San Juan Islands are San
Juan, Orcas, Shaw and Lopez Islands. On the east side
of San Juan, the largest island, is the town of Friday Harbor. Friday Harbor is a historic seaport that is pleasant to stroll around and visit the town’s
parks, restaurants, and galleries.
On the north end of the San Juan Island is Roche Harbor,
which is on the National Register of Historical Sites. It has a beautiful Victorian garden,
sculpture parks, shopping streets and many water activities.
Whilst visiting San Juan Island you can enjoy the many beaches,
hiking trails and great parks the Islands have
to offer. Eco-cruises or sea-kayaking to watch the
whales and other wildlife of the area is extremely popular. Diving is a favourite pastime in the
region to see thriving sea life including giant octopuses, colourful crabs, anemones, corals,
sponges, sea cucumbers, starfish and much more. Dives sites include steep walls, rocky reefs, and rock pinnacles - all
carpeted with marine life.
