Day 1 : Arrive Boston
Stroll historic Boston on your own before gathering in the evening for a welcome reception with your Travel Director and fellow travellers.
Day 2 : Boston - Lexington and Concord
Kick off your New England holiday with a guided tour of Boston's historic sites dotted along the famous Freedom Trail. Travel east to see the birthplace of the American Revolution and the "shot heard around the world". The battles of Lexington and Concord were the first skirmishes in the American war for independence, these quaint towns are still rich in history.
This afternoon's leisurely drive takes you along the Mohawk Trail, an early Native American and colonial trade route and now a designated scenic drive. Nestled in the Berkshire Mountains your overnight stay is in quaint Williamstown, Massachusetts.
Day 3 : Green Mountains of Vermont
As you journey into Vermont, the scenery changes to rolling fields, dense forests, and of course, those iconic wooden covered bridges. You'll stop in a woollen mill in Quechee and have free time in the Simon Pearce glassblowing workshop, before enjoying a delicious Vermont lunch overlooking the river.
In the afternoon, it's more free time in one of the most picturesque villages in Vermont, Woodstock. Stroll around the small boutiques or relax on the village green before heading off through the Vermont countryside to your overnight stay in the mountain resort of Burlington.
Day 4 : White Mountains of New Hampshire
A quick stop in Stowe to the famous Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream Factory, then it’s time to leave the rolling hills of Vermont and head into the majestic mountains of New Hampshire. You’re journey will be ablaze with the flaming colours of autumn as the Presidential Range of the White Mountains come into view. You'll be treated to a stunning glimpse of Mount Washington, the tallest peak in the northeast, before descending into the pretty town of North Conway. In the evening, a local flora and fauna talk will be held after dinner.
Day 5 : Kancamagus Excursion
Spend the morning along the most famous and picturesque foliage destination in New England: the Kancamagus Highway. This American Scenic Byway, affectionately called "The Kanc", has scenic vistas and prime foliage viewing abound, and the morning is dedicated to finding the best spots for viewing the vibrant fall colours. Your afternoon is free to spend as you wish. Perhaps enjoy a stroll through town or stop and take in the natural beauty of the area.
Day 6 : North Conway - Bar Harbor
It's time to leave the mountains behind and head for the wild and rugged coast of Maine, New England's largest state. Journey through dense pine forests before arriving at Bar Harbor on Mount Desert Island. Tonight, it's only fitting that you enjoy a traditional lobster dinner as you look out over the Atlantic Ocean.
Day 7 : Acadia National Park, Maine
Tomorrow, at 1,523 feet, Cadillac Mountain in Acadia National Park is the first place in the USA where you can see the sunrise. The views of the fall colours will be breathtaking. Take in the fiery reds, burnt oranges and deep golden yellow hues as you look out over granite cliffs and dramatic windswept beaches. You'll have free time in Arcadia National Park to relax by the sea, stroll along Main Street or hop-on a nature cruise on Frenchman Bay.
Day 8 : Maine Coast
After experiencing the majestic colours of New England's forests and mountains, it's time to embark on a rambling journey down the rocky beaches and cliffs of Maine's coast. Head down coastal Highway 1 past lighthouses, fisheries and seaside dwellings - home to everyone from local lobstermen to presidents.
Travel south to Portsmouth, near the mouth of the Piscataqua River which divides New Hampshire and Maine. Enjoy a farewell dinner with your fellow travellers and new friends.
Day 9 : Boston, Massachusetts
Today you'll pass through the seaside villages of Cape Ann and Rockport before arriving back in Boston for your flight home.
This is your last day of your escorted tour, however your adventure doesn't have to end here. Perhaps you may want to extend your stay and travel to Washington DC and explore the country's capital or maybe head to New York city for some shopping and sightseeing.
