2017 marks the 50th anniversary of San Francisco’s ‘Summer of Love’ when more than 100,000 ‘flower children’ sporting hippie fashions converged upon the Haight-Ashbury District of the city for a summer of ‘peace, love and hope.’
To celebrate the groovy scene – immortalised by Scott McKenzie’s song ‘Be Sure to Wear some Flowers in Your Hair’ – the city is celebrating with major exhibitions at some of the region’s top museums and a host of special events and concerts looking back at the Summer of 1967.
For all ageing hippies out there who can still remember the event or, for those who fancy experiencing what it was all about, we are highlighting 2017 short break packages to San Francisco including Summer of Love activities.
Prices start at £1195 per person (twin share) for a four-night break including return flights from Heathrow, Manchester or Glasgow, accommodation with breakfast at the historic Stanyan Park Hotel - situated on the edge of the Haight-Ashbury District – a Magic Bus excursion with a hippy hostess on board, plus a psychedelic Flower Power walking tour.
