Days 1 - 3 : Waikiki Beach, Island Of Oahu
No visit to the islands of Hawaii would be complete without a stay on iconic Waikiki Beach! Three nights at this cosmopolitan, vibrant resort will allow you time to visit Pearl Harbour, the Polynesian Cultural Centre, the famous surfing beaches of the North Shore, and Iolani Palace - the only official state residency of Royalty in the USA.
Transfers and lei greeting from Honolulu airport to your Waikiki Beach hotel and a morning tour of Pearl Harbour are included in your stay.
Days 4 : Island of Molokai
It's a short and incredibly scenic flight today from Honolulu airport to the island of Molokai . Here you'll be greeted on arrival and transfered to The Molokai Hotel for a overnight stay prior to your cruise. Located on the tropical beach of Kamiloloa and right next to Hawaii's only barrier reef, you'll adore your stay in the Polynesian bungalows here. On Molokai you can check out some of the highest sea cliffs in the world, view humpback whales or sun-bath on the uncrowded, dreamy beaches.
Days 5 - 6 : Island of Molokai
Today your seven night Hawaiian sailing adventure begins. For the next week the Safari Explorer will be your home as you discover the jaw-dropping splendour of this archipelago.
You'll be transferred from The Molokai Hotel to the Safari Explorer and greeted by the captain and his friendly crew. In the evening enjoy a delicious dinner before an informative presentation about the week ahead. End the evening with a glass of chilled champagne on deck as you look out over the Pacific Ocean.
The following morning just after breakfast it's time to discover Molokai with a local guide and experience Hawaiian traditions that few tourists ever get the opportunity to do. Hear legends and lores, try your hand at poi making, or take a gentle hike to a waterfall in Halawa's cathedral valley. In the evening enjoy a pa'ina (feast) with local musicians under the stars.
Day 7 : Island Of Lanai
Set sail for the Island of Lanai today. In 1922 James Dole, the president of Dole Food Company, purchased this tiny island and turned it into the world's largest pineapple plantation. Today, only the history of that era remains. With no traffic lights, shopping malls,or public transportation, Lanai is the epitome of authentic Hawaii. From the ship, snorkel, paddle board, kayak or explore Lana’i by skiff. Enjoy a short hike to the island’s spatter and cinder cone and earn about the islands plantation days with a visit to the quaint Lanaʻi Culture and Heritage Center.
Day 8 : Island of Maui
Set sail today for Maui, known as the Valley Isle and second largest of the Hawaiian Islands with some of the best beaches in the world. The waters around Maui also offer some of the best Humpback whale watching opportunities in Hawaii. You'll view these magnificent creatures up-close in the Humpback National Marine Sanctuary which is located between the islands of Maui, Lanai and Molokai. This will be one of THE highlights of your sailing holiday.
You'll also visit Olowalu (Turtle Reef) on the west coast of Maui, which in ancient times was considered a place of refuge. Here you can relax and enjoy the scenery or snorkel amongst the coral gardens and sea turtle habitat.
Day 9 : Captain's Choice Day
Today is known as Captain's Choice Day. Due to weather conditions on the actual day it's up to the Captain which direction he'll sail. It may be a dramatic volcano backdrop, marine life sightings, a hidden beach or soaring seacliffs, whatever he unveils, you won't be disappointed. Think of it as a Mystery Day at Sea.
Day 10 : Big Island - Honomalino Bay
It's time to head for the Big Island! Built from five separate volcanoes erupting sequentially, one overlaping the other, this is the youngest and boasts the most dramatic scenery among the Hawaiian islands. It's home to Kilaueau, the world's most active volcano, Mauna Kea - the tallest sea-mountain in the world, Mauna Loa - the largest volcano in the world (by volume and area), and of course, Volcanoes National Park. This is an island of contrasts from the snow capped mountains and fiery volcanic lava fields to the tropical rainforests and deserted beaches.
Today you'll sail into Honomalino Bay on the Big Island. Due to its remote location it is only accessible by foot or boat so this black-sand beach is largely deserted and therefore totally natural. AND, not something most people will experience during their holiday. Fringed by swaying coconut palms this beautiful bay offers a diversity of colourful corals, sponges, and tropical fish. Your day will be spent hiking through the lush rainforest, relaxing on the beach, or kayaking through the crystal clear waters. You decide. In the evening you'll anchor offshore for an incredible night snorkel with the Giant Pacific Manta Rays. The Big Island is one of the best places in the world to view this gentle giant.
Day 11 : Big Island - Kealakekua Bay
The Big Island was where Captain Cook was slain in 1779 at Kealakekua Bay. Today you'll take a skiff to the bay for sightseeing, swimming and snorkeling opportunities. In the evening you'll visit the historic village of Kailua-Kona (once a retreat for the Hawaiian Royalty) where you'll be able to stroll around the eclectic shops for souvenirs, or visit the Hulihee Palace before heading back to the Safari Explorer for the Captain's farewell dinner and Polynesian entertainment.
Days 12 -14 : Big Island - Volcano National Park
This morning it's time to leave your home on the sea, but your Hawaiian holiday isn't over yet! You're off to the excellent four-star Sheraton Kona Resort and Spa for 3 nights. Take in the sights of the Big Island on a Circle Island Tour and a visit to Volcano National Park that we've included in your stay. We'd also recommend star-gazing at the Mauna Kea Summit which Bon Voyage would be delighted to pre-book for you.
Day 15 : Big Island
Mahalo Hawaii - it's time to fly back to the UK.
Your adventure doesn't have to end here, however, perhaps you would like to extend your stay and include a city stop over in Los Angeles or mybe San Francisco.
