Day 1 : Denver
Arrive at Denver’s International Airport and take a deep breath of mountain air. Denver is called the Mile-High City because its official elevation is exactly one mile above sea level, making it one of the highest major cities in the United States.
Day 2 : Rocky Mountain National Park & Steamboat Springs
Distance: 160 miles
Drive through the Rocky Mountain National Park through the Continental Divide to the quaint ski resort of Steamboat Springs.
Day 3 : Dinosaur National Monument - Flamingo Gorge - Rock Springs
Distance: 280 miles
Depart Steamboat Springs and enter Dinosaur National Monument at the Colorado/Utah border and visit Dinosaur quarry, which has produced more skeletons, skulls and bones of dinosaurs than any other dig in the world. Continue on to explore the Flamingo Gorge and Red Canyon then spend the night in Rock Springs, Wyoming.
Day 4 : Rock Springs - Jackson
Distance: 190 miles
Depart Rock Springs and travel along the Wind River Gorge. Continue north over the high chaparral of Wyoming and arrive in Jackson by early evening. Enjoy exploring the rustic Old West with a walk around the old-fashioned town square of Jackson. Dip into one of the many restaurants and bars in this charming town. We love the Silver Dollar Saloon.
You are on the doorstep here of the Grand Tetons National Park, view this marvellous mountain range at sunrise when the sun drenches the range in an incredible pink/orange light.
Day 5 : Jackson - Grand Teton - Yellowstone National Park
Distance: 80 miles
In Yellowstone National Park, explore the diverse geothermal features of America’s first National Park. Old Faithful and Mammoth Hot Springs are the most famous sights of the park. Yellowstone’s wildlife roams the park freely, so prepare yourself for bison, deer, elk, moose and possibly a bear or two.
Day 6 : Yellowstone - Salt Lake City
Distance: 350 miles
You will cross a small portion of the Gem State of Idaho en route to the Mormon State of Utah and its capital, Salt Lake City. Visit the famed Temple and the Tabernacle.
Day 7 : Salt Lake City - Bryce Canyon National Park
Distance: 250 miles
Cross the Wasatch Mountain Range to reach the natural wonders in southern Utah. Visit Bryce Canyon National Park to view its fanciful spires and rock formations.
Day 8 : Bryce Canyon National Park
A full day to further explore Bryce Canyon National Park. Alternatively, it is just a short drive to Zion National Park and some of the world’s most incredible sandstone formations formed millions of years ago by the powerful hand of nature.
Day 9 : Bryce Canyon National Park - Lake Powell
Distance: 120 miles
After having discovered the natural wonders of Zion National Park, drive east via Kanab to Page where the red desert meets deep blue Lake Powell. Relax beside this man made lake on one of the wonderful sandy beaches or hire a boat and explore over 200 miles of shoreline.
Day 10 : Lake Powell - Monument Valley - Cortez
Distance: 280 miles
Leave early to explore this magnificent landscape. Travel to the Navajo Indian Reservation, pass the Trading Post of Cameron, and drive through the Painted Desert to beautiful Monument Valley’s red land stone spires and monoliths. Plan to arrive early evening in Cortez.
Day 11 : Cortez - Mesa Verde National Park - Durango
Distance: 50 miles
Depart early from Cortez for the ruins of Mesa Verde which are valid proof of the highly sophisticated civilization of the Anasazi Indians. Due to erosion, the number of visitors a day here are restricted, be sure to be there when the park opens. It's a short drive next to the charming old gold-mining town of Durango.
Day 12 : Durango - Taos
Distance: 200 miles
Enjoy the magnificent scenery while strolling along Main Street, Durango, which is lined with southwestern boutiques. If time allows jump on aboard the Silverton-Durango scenic railroad, little on this train has changed much since the gold-mining days. Pop into the famous historic Strater Hotel for a cold beer in Old West surroundings
Depart Durango and pass Pagosa Springs en route to the state of New Mexico, The Land of Enchantment, where you can visit one of many the artists’ colonies in colourful Taos.
Day 13 : Taos
Distance: 140 miles
Explore the remarkable Taos Indian Pueblo, a virtually unchanged village inhabited for over 800 years by as many as 1,400 Taos Indians. In the afternoon, drive south to Santa Fe, the oldest capital city in the United States.
Explore Santa Fe’s historic centre on a short walking tour. Enjoy the unique atmosphere which has made Santa Fe a mecca for artists. Before returning to Taos for the night.
Day 14 : Taos - Denver
Distance: 310 miles
On your way to Denver, drive north through the Land of Enchantment of New Mexico into the state of Colorado. The mountainous terrain of Colorado will surround you, providing panoramic scenery en route to Denver.
Day 15 : Denver Departure
Today is your departure day from Denver unless we can tempt you to stay longer? Perhaps a few extra days to explore the Mile High city of Denver or maybe a flight over to the bright lights of Las Vegas?
