It's time to ride the rails! Depart bright and early on the Rocky Mountaineer into the heart of British Columbia’s interior and the historic railroad town of Kamloops. Be prepared for dramatic changes in the scenery as you journey through the rolling hills of the lush Fraser Valley. Have your camera ready for the towering forests, gushing river canyons and the snow-capped peaks of the Coast and Cascade Mountains. Canada’s only desert-like region surrounds Kamloops and the early evening arrival here gives you time to explore after transferring to your hotel.
The Canadian province of Alberta we'll have you gazing out at ranchlands, shimmering lakes, glaciers and, of course, those soaring Canadian Rocky Mountains. Today’s highlights include the Spiral Tunnels, Kicking Horse Canyon and the climb over 4,360 feet to Roger’s Pass through the Selkirk Mountains. Keep an eye out for mountain goats and black bears.
Your first full day in Banff is leisurely, starting with a free morning to explore followed by a half-day sightseeing tour of Banff National Park. Included will be visits to Bow Falls, the famous Banff Gondola, Lake Minnewanka, Surprise Corner and the Hoodoos.
On your following free day in Banff, plan to head to the iconic Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel for High Tea or a round of golf. If you're feeling energetic there's plenty of nature trails to hike, or relax in the mineral pools at Upper Hot Springs.
Today, it's a short and scenic journey into Yoho National Park on the western slopes of the Rocky Mountains. Here you'll encounter big peaks, expansive glaciers and cascading waterfalls. This park is also home to the ingenious Spiral Tunnels and stunning Emerald Lake. Your tour ends at one of the most photographed lakes in the world - Lake Louise. You'll have the rest of the day free to relax, or stroll around the lake and enjoy the scenery.
On your free day in Lake Louise, be sure to rise early to watch the sunrise over the lake, it's a spectacular sight. The rest of the day is yours to explore the area at your leisure.
Experience one of the world's most scenic road trips as you journey along the Icefield Parkway, one of the largest accumulations of ice south of the Arctic Circle, and one of the most accessible icefields in North America. In an ice tundra buggy, ride out into the middle of the Athabasca Glacier to learn about its geological features. There will be time for lunch before you arrive into Jasper late afternoon.
The following day you'll discover the delights of Jasper National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, on a half-day sightseeing tour. The afternoon is yours to enjoy on your own, we'd suggest a gentle cruise on Maligne Lake out to Spirit Island.
All aboard the Rocky Mountaineer as you travel in style and comfort through the scenery of the incredible Rocky Mountains to the charming rural town of Quesnel. View the highest peak in the Canadian Rockies, Mount Robson, plus Yellow Head Pass, Moose Lake and the vast forests of British Columbia's interior.
Enjoy the scenery from the comfort of your seat as you journey south to the pretty mountain resort of Whistler. Through British Columbia's interior, you'll encounter both desert-like and lush alpine vistas. Today's highlights have to be Deep Creek Bridge, one of the world's highest railway bridges and the glacial fed Seton and Anderson Lakes.
The morning in Whistler is yours to enjoy at your leisure. Early afternoon you'll board the Rocky Mountaineer one final time for your journey back to Vancouver via the stunning scenery of the Sea to Sky Corridor. Your Rocky Mountaineer host will point out the photo ops including Cheakamus Canyon, the Coast Mountains, Brandywine Falls and Howe Sound.
Transfer to your downtown hotel for a final night in Vancouver.
Have a final Canadian breakfast before transferring to Vancouver Airport for your early afternoon flight back to the UK.
