There is plenty to see and do here, with Providence and Newport, two of New England's most historic and lively cities. The state abounds with soft, sandy beaches, peaceful countryside, fine restaurants and high-quality inns and B&B's.
Incidentally, Rhode Island isn't an island. The explorer Giovanni da Verrazano decided that the coastline reminded him of the island of Rhodes in Greece!
