Running along the fringe of the mysterious Area 51, Nevada, this stretch of highway has an overwhelming number of reported UFO sightings. So much so, that in 1996 the federal government officially named Highway 375 the
. Not only is the ET Highway full of alien fun, it traverses some unique desert scenery as well.
E.T. Full Moon Marathon
normally held in August each year, it's a tongue-in-cheek fun event!
The ET Highway has become a gathering place for UFO enthusiasts and nature lovers alike. With elevations ranging from roughly 4000-5600 feet, the high desert will enchant you with gorgeous vegetation, surrounding mountains, and stunning vistas. An additional treat is the cooler temperatures. Rachel, Nevada, where the race starts, is generally 20 degrees cooler than the Las Vegas Valley; coupled with a midnight run, temperatures should be around 68 degrees in August!
Comments from recent runners-
"Many runners may choose this race because of the novelty of running a race at midnight, in the desert, next to Area 51, with a full moon, and the chance of alien abduction. However, this race is so much more"
" Now before going any further... I should say that I have never really been all that into aliens. It is not that I didn't believe in Extraterrestrial life, I guess I just never really cared! In fact, I have never even seen the movie ET (I guess I now have homework to do!) But that said, I have had a ton of fun with the concept and theme of this race. Open your minds and allow yourselves to have fun with this!"
"It's the middle of the desert at midnight, so there are no cheerleaders, but the volunteers that do come out are wonderful and supportive"
"The course temps were perfect, the moonlight was beautiful and the desert was serene. That is exactly why I run"
"ET is a smaller race, so expect it to be run differently from the larger races. Have you ever gotten a hug from the race director at an R'n'R race at the finish line? "
