Eureka was founded by gold miners in 1850, who were so excited by their find that they proudly named if after the state's ancient Greek motto meaning "I have found it"
Along the waterfront is Eureka's interesting old town with its restored 19th-century buildings, due to the large number of historic buildings here, it has been dubbed by many as the "Williamsburg of the West".
Many of these have been turned into cafes and restaurants, it's a really pleasant place to sit with a coffee and watch the world go by. We love Lost Coast Brewery and Cafe..
Eureka is an ideal place to stay to visit Redwood National Park, which is home the tallest trees on earth! These giant sequoias live up to 2000 years and grow up to 110 metres.
