San Diego's downtown area is delightfully urban and eclectic. It comprises of eight neighbourhoods including East Village, Little Italy, and the Embarcadero. The most popular is the lively Gaslamp Quarter, a National Historic District featuring brick sidewalks, gaslights and Victorian-style buildings. Wyatt Earp once ran a couple of saloons here, and his ghost may still haunt it's dynamic hub of 90+ restaurants, 40 bars and 100 retail shops!
Surrounding downtown is Old Town State Historic Park, a tribute to the 18th century days when San Diego was California's first Spanish settlement. At the heart are a cluster of historic abode buildings and all around are lively restaurants selling Mexican food and crafts. This is a fun area to visit especially in the evening, you'll feel like you are being transported back into Old Mexico.
