The Island of Coronado is linked to downtown San Diego by the beautifully curving 2.2 mile San Diego-Coronade Bridge. Business man Elisha Babcock Jnr bought this Island in 1885 and set out to develop a world class resort. Well, he succeeded. Coronado now boasts San Diego's most exclusive homes, boutiques, hotels and restaurants.
The Island's enourmous sandy beach is delightful, hardly ever crowded and is overlooked by the landmark Hotel Del Coronado. The Del, as it's fondly known, is one of the largest wooden structures in the USA and is a truly grand Victorian hotel. You may even recognise it as it was the setting for Marilyn Monroe's film Some Like It Hot.
