Golf Holidays to Bermuda
Bermuda is a golf holiday destination that is just waiting to be discovered again. From manicured golf courses and coral tinged beaches to luxury resorts and spas, Bermuda is a mecca of holiday pleasures. Many people mistakenly think Bermuda is part of the Caribbean but the islands are in fact hundreds of miles to the north and lie in the Atlantic Ocean just 650 miles off the North Carolina coast.
Bermuda was first settled over 400 years ago. The original settlers were mainly victims of shipwrecks from ships sailing from Europe and Africa. Indeed the island is surrounded by hundreds of shipwrecks and divers from all over the world come to explore the waters. Bermuda is Britain’s oldest colony and there is still much on the island to remind the visitor of the continuing connection. Bermuda has a unique charm and a wonderful year round climate which is ideal for golfers looking for winter break.
Bermuda is famed for its colourful houses and white limestone roofs and also for the fabulous pink sandy beaches and emerald seas. Bermuda nowadays is also famous for its wealth of superb golf courses. The new jewel in the crown is Port Royal Golf Club. The course is owned by the Bermuda government and in the last two years the course has undergone a complete renovation and is now one of the great courses of the world.
Port Royal Golf
Club will host the 2009 and 2010 PGA Grand Slam of Golf for the season’s
winners of the four major championships. In addition to Port Royal, golf on
Bermuda offers the famous Mid Ocean Club, Tucker’s Point, Belmont, Riddell’s
Bay, Belmont, Ocean View and the 18 hole par 3 course at Fairmont Southampton.
