Located
in Big Sur, California, the Post Ranch Inn has been
described as heaven on earth – and from its position above the cloud line its
easy to understand why. Known amongst the Hollywood elite as a haven to escape
for the weekend the Inn offers 39 secluded
suites scattered along the cliff top that were designed to blend in seamlessly
with the landscape. Local architect Mickey
Muennig camped
out at the planned location for each room to maximise the views, and the
Pacific Suite is the ultimate result.
Offering a deck suspended over the cliffs, the extraordinary rooms seem to soar
over the Pacific Ocean, and the uninterrupted
views really are made the most of here – from the living room, the bedroom, the
shower or outdoors from a sunlounger, a massage table or
the stainless steel hot tub. And while the view might ‘just’ be of the Ocean it
is certainly never dull.
The cloud blankets the water like a duvet and sneaks up on the cliffs until you feel you could just step out on to it whilst still enjoying the sunshine. As you can imagine the sunsets here are pretty spectacular too and at night time you can enjoy the stars in some of the clearest skies in North America.
Priding
itself on being ‘a hotel with a soul’ there are no TVs here and the focus
is on making the most of the natural beauty of Big Sur. Endangered California
condors fly in the skies and between December and March grey and blue whales
migrate along the coastline. For those can tear themselves away from the view there
are complimentary convertible Lexus’ at guests disposal to fully make the most
of the rest of the views along Pacific Highway 1.
