Day 1 Sunny El Paso

Tour begins: 3:45 PM at El Paso Marriott. El Paso, Texas is your gateway to this enchanting New Mexico holiday. A transfer is included from El Paso International Airport to the El Paso Marriott. Attend a fascinating presentation on the bats of Carlsbad Caverns by a veteran conservationist who has dedicated his career to the preservation of nature's endangered species, followed by a private evening at the El Paso Museum of Art, housing more than 5,000 works from around the world; enjoy a private cocktail party, dinner and docent tour right in the museum.

Day 2 Carlsbad Caverns

Visit Carlsbad Caverns National Park, site of more than 300 ancient limestone caves that date back millions of years, en routeto your mountain resort for a two-night stay. Explore gigantic Carlsbad Cavern; this underground grotto rises into a room 22 stories high and stretches for more than a mile! Arrive at your Mescalero hideaway in time for a leisurely dinner.

Day 3 White Sands National Monument

Spend the day, your way, taking advantage of the resort’s many recreational activities, including bird watching, hiking, fishing,horseback riding, golf, boating and more (additional costs may apply), or exploring nearby sights on Tauck’s optional sightseeing excursions. Get a close-up look of the world’s largest gypsum sand dune field, covering some 275 square miles of deser t,at the White Sands National Monument, and join us for a visit to the Hubbard Museum in nearby Ruidoso. Dinner tonight is at your resort’s signature restaurant, Wendell’s.

Day 4 Old Town Albuquerue / Sante Fe

Stop to see the Lincoln State Monument on your way to Albuquerque, the place to indulge your interests about old Spanish churches, adobe architecture, arts and crafts... and red chilies! Explore the city’s Old Town on your own, perhaps visiting the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center, and continue to Santa Fe for three nights. Dine at leisure at the Old House restaurant.

Day 5 See the many flavours of life in Sante Fe

Mexican food

See a rich cultural mix of Native American, Spanish and Old West influences on a guided walking tour of Santa Fe. A private presentation by a local chef invites discussion on regional ingredients and cooking techniques, prior to lunch at the SantaFe School of Cooking. The rest of the day is free.

Day 6 Ancient Pueblo de Taos

Taos’ desert and mountain landscapes invite discovery today. Venture outside of the city to Ranchos de Taos to see the18th-century San Francisco de Asís Mission Church and legendary Pueblo de Taos, the only living Native American community designated both a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a National Historic Landmark. Storyteller Roberta Meyer shares the legends of the region before a walk to the pueblos over the dramatic Rio Grande Gorge Bridge – spectacular views provide an awesome backdrop for her fascinating stories. Explore terraced communal dwellings that have been continuously inhabited for over 1,000 years and return to Santa Fe.

Day 7 Santa Fe Art / Bandelier / Albuquerque

A private morning visit to the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum showcases some 3,000 works of art by this prolific artist. (When the museum is closed, you’ll visit the Georgia O’Keeffe Research Center, displaying many of her personal effects.) Bandelier National Monument lays claim to being one of North America’s oldest human settlements; stop and take a close look at its remarkable cliff dwellings as we travel to your resort in Albuquerque for an overnight stay and a farewell dinner.
