Sea Island
In 1911, Howard Coffin, the owner of the Hudson Motor Company, bought a piece of land on nearby Sapelo Island and developed it as a private resort for himself and his wealthy friends. In 1922, he purchased what was formerly called Long Island and renamed it Sea Island. In 1928 he built a resort called "The Cloister." Though the original Cloister has been completely rebuilt this resort legend is the epitome of exclusive luxury in an idyllic beachfront location. It also boasts a wonderful golf course.
