Elvis Honeymoon Hidewaway and Home

PSP Elvis Honeymoon htl ext

The huge honeymoon house at 1350 Ladera Circle, was built in the early 60s in state-of-the-art, open-plan mid-century style with acres of glass and exposed beamed ceilings, all set in a private estate that includes a large, diamond-shaped pool with stage, tennis court, garden and orchard. The family that built the property- The Alexanders, became national celebrities when an 8-page article appeared in a magazine heralding the home as the "House of Tomorrow".

When one of the Alexanders died tragically, the house went up for lease. It happened that Colonel Tom Parker resided in the neighbourhood and thought the place would be ideal for Elvis to entertain his friends and escape the craziness of Hollywood. Elvis moved in on 16th September 1966 on a one-year lease.

Rumour spread like wild fire on 1st May 1966 that Elvis and Pricilla were going to tie the knot in Palm Springs. After it was broadcast all over the News, the couple decided to avoid the press and media onslaught and to change their plans of getting married by the pool at their home. Instead they slipped out through the back door and jumped on Frank Sinatra's private jet to nearby Las Vegas where they were married in the Aladdin Hotel. After a small celebration here, they jumped back on the jet and were back home to Palm Springs to enjoy their honeymoon.
