Maryland Holidays
There is a distinctly maritime feel about any holiday to Maryland with its port cities, ruddy faced fishermen and boats bobbing on Chesapeake Bay. The Bay roughly cuts the state in half with the major cities of Baltimore and Annapolis on the mainland or western side bridged by a short crossing over the northernmost part of the Chesapeake to the eastern shore. Although the fishing industry is declining somewhat the state’s annual catch of crabs is the largest of any in the USA.
‘The Province of Maryland’ was colonised by the British in 1632 and for over 100 years thousands of convicts were sent here. While not initially favouring a break from British rule, Maryland eventually became the 7th state to ratify the American constitution in 1788.
Come and discover the world of history surrounding this beautiful state for yourself.
