Lake Tahoe Holidays
Formed about 2 million years ago, the Lake Tahoe Basin was the result of a fracture in the earth's crust. Modern Lake Tahoe was shaped and landscaped by scouring glaciers during the Ice Ages and averages 989 feet deep.
Located on the border of California and Nevada, the lake is known for the clarity of its water and the panorama of surrounding mountains on all sides. The area surrounding the lake is also referred to as Lake Tahoe, or simply Tahoe.
One of the world’s great ski destinations, with dozens of resorts, the biggest is Heavenly. Only 200 seriously scenic miles from San Francisco, the name says it all! Traditional Tahoe ambiance with a distinct European village flair — heated cobblestone sidewalks, wooden archways, covered walkways, open bonfire pits. Although skiing is the draw, there are a myriad of things to enjoy without ever stepping into ski boots! Helicopter tours, gondola rides, snowmobiling, hot air ballooning, outlet shopping, sleigh rides and, it wouldn’t be America without, a culinary outlet or two!
In summer hiking, fishing, camping, golf, tennis, and mountain biking are there for the taking –if you can pull yourself away from the serenity of the amazing pure, blue water.
