Hawaii Holidays
Places to stay
Surprisingly light on Disney and refreshingly heavy on Hawaii, this new 21 acre resort, only 30 minutes from cosmopolitan Waikiki delivers the magical Polynesian holiday.
A modern take on a Hawaii resort that puts premium on tradition, the $800-million Aulani Ko Olina on the leeward Oahu opened in late August 2011 with 359 hotel rooms, two restaurants, two bars and a spa. All the resorts hotel rooms measure in at a comfortable 382 square feet, with 16 suites ranging from 764 to 1,910 square feet.
You'll delight in whimsical touches throughout the rooms, from pineapple-patterned quilt woven with hidden Mickeys to an outrigger canoe motif in the headboard to giant hand-carved fish hooks framing the wall mirror. Look out for the only overt Disney reference in the room: a lamp with a ukulele playing Mickey Mouse! Island art works adorn the walls and floral print throw pillows add to the aloha flavour.
At Aulani, Hawaiian traditions blend with magical Disney storytelling to create world-class entertainment for the entire ʻŌhana. Most entertainment is complimentary for registered Aulani Guests. Here you'll enjoy hula dancers by starlight, fireside Mo'olelo, sunset ceremonies, Disney movie nights, character breakfasts at Aunty's Beach House and festive pool parties to name but a few.
When you're not tackling the 8,200 square foot pool complex or relaxing on a lounger, skip down to the heavenly powder-white crescent shaped beach at Aulani and enjoy snorkelling, kayaking or paddleboarding. The little ones will love the state-of-the-art Aunty's Beach House where they can learn about Hawaiian culture and try a spot of hula dancing! What a perfect Kodak moment....
