Estes Park
Estes Park, the headquarters for Rocky Mountain National Park, sits at an elevation of 7,522 feet at the eastern entrance of Rocky Mountain National Park. Understandably, this mountain resort community is rich with outdoor activity year round and caters to families as well as couples seeking a romantic retreat. Stay in a log cabin or a luxury hotel – the one thing that doesn’t change is the stunning natural backdrop.
Only an hour and half outside of Denver, Estes Park could also be easily enjoyed as a day trip for hiking, biking, skiing or strolling through the quaint village and breathing that mountain air!
In addition to the moutains and scenery, Estes Park’s
claim to fame came in the form of a special hotel guest.
On the outskirts of town is The Stanley Hotel, a magnificent Edwardian hotel and estate. The author Stephen King stayed at the hotel and it inspired him to change the location for his novel The Shining from an amusement park to the Stanley's fictional stand-in, the Overlook Hotel. Today visitors can stay at the beautifully restored hotel or stop by and take the Historical Ghost Tour…boo!
