Monument Valley National Park, Arizona/Utah

Monument Valley is located along the Utah/Arizona border towards the southeast corner of Utah. Whether or not you are aware of it, you have very likely already seen Monument Valley in countless Western movies and television programmes. It is claimed by some to be legendary Hollywood director John Ford’s favourite movie backdrop. It's also a popular detour on a Route 66 fly-drive holiday.

Monument Valley is an area of monolithic sandstone rock formations that rise majestically from the desert floor. With some towering 1,000 feet from the desert floor, they create a truly magical desert landscape.

West Mitten Butte Monument Valley

You can drive the very bumpy 14 mile loop and enjoy good views of Monument Valley. To make the most out of your visit try going early morning or late afternoon when the light is best. Please note that this route is not recommended for low clearance vehicles and RV's longer than 24 feet and is not drivable when wet.)

There are many private roads off limits to the public which are only accessible to the tour operators offering jeep tours through the valley, and you get the added benefit of expert guiding and commentary. Please ask us to recommend a reputable operator.
