Almost unfathomable in size, this 2.1 million acre forest in the north-east corner of California represents more than 20% of the state and is roughly the size of Belgium!
The jewel of the region is Mt. Shasta. Visible from more than 100 miles and over 14,000 feet high, it is technically a live volcano.
With amazing and numerous scenic by-ways, the driving experience will thrill and humble you. Redding to the south, is the largest city in the area and the gateway to Shasta Trinity National Recreation Area, a mecca for outdoor activities from camping to backpacking; horseback riding to mountain biking.
This is also the home to Shasta Lake, the largest in California, formed by Shasta dam which has a spillway three times as high as Niagara Falls. This wilderness area is a truly unique experience, quiet open roads, breathtaking scenery and far away from the crowds.
